Why have workers call Bharat Bandh tomorrow?

A coalition of ten major central trade unions has initiated a nationwide strike, primarily expressing their disapproval of the government’s perceived inaction on labor issues. A key point of contention is the government’s failure to convene the annual labor conference for the past decade. The unions contend that current economic policies are fueling a surge in unemployment, driving up the cost of essential goods, and suppressing wages.Furthermore, the forum argues that various government departments are impeding the nation’s progress, particularly detrimental given that 65% of India’s population is under 35 years old. They highlight that the highest rates of unemployment are observed among individuals aged 20 to 25, suggesting a significant challenge in providing adequate opportunities for this vital demographic.
